| Mara meets Bernd das Brot - Tommy Krappweis visits us! |
|
The inventor of "Bernd das Brot" (Bernd the Bread – a puppet character, star mascot and cult figure of the German children's television channel KI.KA) and ex RTL "Samstag Nacht" ("Saturday Night", a German comedy show) comedian Tommy Krappweis presents his first novel "MARA UND DER FEUERBRINGER" (Mara and the Fire Bringer). Tommy Krappweis was born in Munich on May 9, 1972 and first became a lousy student. In third grade he shot his first stop-motion movie on Super-8, with the help of his typewriter at home adapted Ellis Kaut's "Pumuckl und die Grippetabletten" (Pumuckl and the flu tablets – a German children's story) as theatre play and at the age of 14 he sang in Bavaria's youngest Rock'n'Roll group. Moving into his professional life, he first worked in front of the camera (among others in the German TV crime show SoKo 5113 and on Disney TV) and three years as comedian for RTL "Samstag Nacht". He then changed over to working almost solely behind the camera. He founded the bumm film GmbH for scripts, directing and post-production and, together with Norman Cöster, invented the Ki.Ka cult figure "Bernd das Brot". For this both bizarre and entertaining idea and its execution, he received the "Goldener Spatz" (Golden Sparrow award) in 2004 and finally the Adolf-Grimme award. "MARA UND DER FEUERBRINGER" is, after countless scripts for sketches, Bernd-das-Brot episodes & movie parodies, several episodes of the "prosieben Märchenstunde" (prosieben Fairy Tale Hour) and "Funny Movies", Tommy's first novel. "While doing research about German mythology for a TV series, suddenly one thing led to the next, and one day the 14-year-old, slightly grumpy Mara stood in front of me and demanded to be written," says Krappweis. What he produced is a gripping mixture between Harry Potter, DaVinci Code and a very special kind of a humor. The author created "Mara" together with Professor Rudolf Simek of the University of Bonn so that facts and contexts of German mythology would be up to date where the latest research is concerned. "That is why there's an appendix at the end of the book by Prof. Simek with explanations of names and words, as well as a subjective book list for secondary literature." His presentation will be held on November 07, 2009 in our GROUND 2.0. The exact times will be published approx. 1 month prior to the event. Subject to change without notice. |
